Beatriz Navarro

The National Research Council of Italy (CNR), through its Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection (IPSP), contributes expertise in plant responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, with the aim of identifying resistance and adaptation mechanisms that improve plant health in agriculture and forestry.

The IPSP unit in Bari has extensive expertise in plant virology, combining biological and molecular approaches with advanced omics technologies. The team has more than 20 years of experience in studying plant-associated viroids and viroid-like RNAs, with a particular focus on plant–viroid interactions and the role of RNA silencing in viroid pathogenesis. The unit also develops high-throughput sequencing approaches for the identification and characterization of viroids and viroid-like RNAs, contributing to the discovery and characterization of emerging infectious circular RNAs.
