ViroiDoc partner IBMCP receives Severo Ochoa Excellence Accreditation

This is among the highest scientific honours in Spain. Congratulations!

In May 2026, the ViroiDoc project partner IBMCP, UPV-CSIC was awarded the prestigious Severo Ochoa Excellence Accreditation. This is truly exciting news, as the distinction is among the highest scientific honours in Spain. Along with the recognition, the IBMCP also receives additional funding to further strengthen its research capacities.

This is how the IBMCP described the award:

The Institute of Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMCP, UPV-CSIC) has received extraordinary funding within the MaX-CSIC 2025 project, an initiative of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) aimed at developing excellence strategies in its research centers and institutes. The grant, awarded under the DEEP-MaX-2025 call for proposals, provides €300,000 in funding and will allow the IBMCP to advance the implementation of strategic actions aimed at strengthening its scientific standing, its internal organization, and its capacity to generate impactful knowledge in the field of plant biology and biotechnology.

The MaX-CSIC project, an acronym for Framework for Self-Assessment and Evaluation of Scientific and Social Excellence-CSIC, aims to support CSIC centers in defining and developing their improvement plans, providing self-assessment tools, guidance, and financial support to advance toward higher levels of scientific, institutional, and social excellence.

For the IBMCP, this grant represents further recognition of the center's track record and its commitment to high-quality research aimed at addressing global challenges related to sustainable food production, the agronomic and nutritional improvement of crops, and environmental protection. Receiving this funding adds to other recent milestones for the Institute and reinforces the IBMCP's commitment to excellent, collaborative science with the capacity to transfer knowledge to society.
