ViroiDoc at the 10th National Congress of the Italian Society for Virology

ViroiDoc presented its latest research on viroid-like RNAs, strengthening the project's scientific visibility and dissemination.

As part of its dissemination and communication activities, ViroiDoc participated in the 10th National Congress of the Italian Society for Virology, held in Palermo, Italy, 14–16 June 2026. The congress provided an excellent platform to present the project's latest scientific results, engage with the international virology community, and enhance the visibility of ViroiDoc among researchers and stakeholders, contributing to the project's communication and dissemination objectives towards the European Commission.

ViroiDoc was represented through the poster presentation "Identification of novel viroid-like RNAs in hop and weeds from Italy and Brazil", authored by M. Chiumenti, T.G. Zambiassi, V. Hrabar, N. Serale, M. Luigi, L. Ferretti, R.F. Calegario, M. Eiras, F. Di Serio and B. Navarro. The work highlights advances in the identification and characterisation of novel viroid-like RNAs in different plant hosts and reflects the collaborative nature of the project. The presented research also received support from the CNR (Italy) / FAPESP (Brazil) Joint Project (2024–2025), demonstrating the strong international collaborations that complement and strengthen ViroiDoc's research activities.

The congress programme also featured a plenary lecture dedicated to viroid-like RNAs, reflecting the increasing scientific interest in this emerging field. Dr. Marcos de la Peña (IMBCP, UPV-CSIC) delivered the invited plenary lecture "Viroid-like agents colonize new life kingdoms" during the plenary session on Monday, 15 June 2026, presenting recent advances in the biology, evolution and diversity of viroid-like infectious agents.

Through its participation in major international scientific events such as the National Congress of the Italian Society for Virology, ViroiDoc continues to disseminate project results, foster scientific exchange, and strengthen the impact and visibility of its research within the European Research Area and beyond.
